Jim Jones has rejected claims put forth in a recent viral video by a young fan who compared the Dipset rapper to Nas.
On the latest episode of Fat Joe and Jadakiss' podcast, which you can watch below, Joey Crack spoke about a viral clip from the Don't Quote Me podcast where a 22-year-old compared Capo to Nas and suggested he was more influenced by the former over the latter, despite the seismic impact of Illmatic.
"I was a superior Nas fan, but when you get into the game, you realize your idols become rivals," he said. "Not to take anything away from that. I developed my own style and my own lane that these kids started to gravitate towards, the same way I gravitated towards Nas when I was younger."
Jadakiss pushed back on what Jones had to say, and suggested that his own son is very much aware of Nas.
"My son can't tell me one Nas record," Jones replied. "There must be some type of misconception when it comes to Jim Jones and what Jim Jones has done in this game. A lot of these rappers have done a tremendous job. And I take nothing away from them. But they forget, I got a hell of a catalog. Gold records, platinum records. ... Check my track record. Then check everybody else track record."
He stressed that he's not trying to take away from other rappers' achievements, but he thinks that people are "trying to act funny" when they make these sort of comparisons. "I been putting on," he continued. "If you want to go to the Billboard entries, pull up Nas' Billboard entires and pull up my Billboard entries."
While Jim Jones has had plenty of success on the Billboard charts throughout his career, Nas has had more of impact on the charts. Jones, as a solo artist, has had two of his songs reach the Billboard Hot 100, one of which made it into the Top 10. Nas, meanwhile, has 27 Hot 100 entries and two Top 10 hits.
Jones has three albums that have charted on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while Nas has 27. Of Nas' entries on the album chart, 16 landed in the Top 10, and six reached No. 1.
