Jay Rock Arrested in Los Angeles for Firearm Possession

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Jay Rock attempted to flee police when he was stopped for trespassing.

Jay Rock was arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday after police stopped him for allegedly trespassing in Nickerson Gardens.

As reported by NBC Los Angeles, the Grammy Award-winning rapper was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department at approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13. Police apprehended him for trespassing and drinking in public in Nickerson Gardens, which is where he grew up. He attempted to flee from his vehicle but the police apprehended him and searched his vehicle, where a firearm was allegedly discovered. He has been booked on suspicion of felony weapons violation.

When reached for comment by Complex on Friday, a representative for the LAPD confirmed Rock was arrested on Thursday. "He was arrested on 3/13/25 for 29800 (a)1 PC Excon w/gun," the representative confirmed. Since Jay Rock was previously convicted of a felony, he his prohibited from possessing a firearm per California law.

Jay Rock, 39, has not commented on the arrest.

The rapper made an appearance at Kendrick Lamar's The Pop-Out: Ken and Friends concert in Los Angeles last year as part of a brief Black Hippy reunion. He also performed at TDE's annual Holiday Toy Drive alongside the likes of Ab-Soul, Doechii, Schoolboy Q, and SZA. He hasn't released a major studio album since 2018's Redemption, however, he's been teasing a project entitled Eastside Johnny and dropped a string of singles in 2023.
