Jadakiss Says Suge Knight’s Death Row Lox Deal 'Wouldn’t Have Been a Good Look'

The infamous music mogul tried to sign the New York trio before they opted to join Diddy at Bad Boy Records.

Jadakiss has shared a story about the time Suge Knight tried to sign The Lox — and just how far he was willing to go to get the trio on Death Row Records.

The NYC trio signed with Diddy's Bad Boy Records in 1996 and released their debut album, Money, Power & Respect, in 1998. But at one point in time, Knight was particularly interested in signing the group.

"Suge called Sheek mom's crib when was was young," Kiss recalled to Fat Joe on the latest episode of the pair's Joe and Jada podcast. "Right when the Bad Boy deal was on the table."

Joe then asked if Suge knew the Lox were looking to sign with Diddy's label, which apparently he did.

"Somehow he heard, and we were in Sheek's crib watching Video Music Box and Suge called his crib," Jada explained. "Louch must have been like, 'Hold on... Yo, it's fucking Suge on the phone.' We like, 'What?!' I remember they said, 'Yo, we want to sign.' They never even heard us."

He continued: "They just must have 'cause Puff was about to sign us. So he like, 'Yo, y'all can get on a red eye tonight with however many people you want to come over here with. I could fly out tonight.'"

The Lox considered the deal but ultimately decided it wasn't for them. "It wouldn't have been a good look," Jada said. "Probably wouldn't have worked overall." He recalled that after this, he kept seeing Suge Knight in places, "popping up" when he least expected it. "Everywhere I had to be," he said. "But he wasn't on no type of time."

After the group's debut album, The Lox would go on to sign with Ruff Ryders for their second record.
