Harry Styles Drops Video for First 'Harry's House' Single "As It Was"

Harry Styles has shared the first single from his upcoming album Harry’s House, which he announced last week alongside a gorgeous trailer. Styles also dropped off the track’s Tanu Muino-directed music video, which you can check out up top.

Our first taste of the actor and musician’s third studio album is “As It Was,” his first new song since he released Fine Line in 2019.

The former One Direction member announced the record alongside its cover art last week. The art shows Styles in a sparse, upside-down room, and was shared alongside a brief teaser that featured previously unheard music. Harry’s House will feature “As It Was” alongside 12 other tracks. The album is set to drop on May 20.

Upon announcing the project, some fans pointed out the song appears to be a reference to Joni Mitchell’s song “Harry House / Centerpiece,” which appeared on her 1975 album The Hissing of Summer Lawns. When she heard about the title of the record, her official Twitter account tweeted an endorsement.

“Directing a Harry Styles video was a bucket list dream come true for me as he’s my favorite performer,” Tanu said of working on the new track’s video. “Shooting him was bittersweet as it was one of the happiest days of my life, but on the second day of the shoot, my country Ukraine was invaded so you can imagine the insane emotions we had while shooting. Me and my team from Ukraine poured so much love into this video and you can see it on screen. It will be a music video I will never forget and now I can happily retire.”

Outside of the world of music, Styles has been keeping himself very busy. He made his feature film debut in Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic Dunkirk in 2017, and he’s got at least two major projects on the horizon. He’s set to star in Olivia Wilde’s psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling, later this year, and he’s also set to appear in My Policeman as a closeted gay police officer in ‘50s Britain. Most recently he appeared as Eros, the brother of MCU big-bad Thanos, in Eternals.
