In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid about his upcoming album, G Herbo said that being a rapper is “one of the most dangerous things in the world.”

“I don’t see how people don’t understand that being a rapper is one of the most dangerous things in the world,” he told Whoo Kid at the 6:30 mark of the interview above. “Just being somebody like me, an influence. Like, 24/7… 24 hours a day you have to be something that the outside world think you are. At the end of the day, y’all really not realizing that n***as got whole personal lives. I got that from the streets, you can’t really let it take a toll on you.”

The Chicago rapper explained that during his come-up, he had to deal with a lot of potential threats. “You got to deal with snakes, n***as trying to kill you, you gotta deal with the police, you gotta deal with so much,” he added. “You gotta deal with being broke, you got to deal with a lot of shit.”

Herbo was then asked if he’s become desensitized to violence, and confirmed that he has, although that doesn’t stop it from it getting to him sometimes. “I still be crying sometimes,” he said of the friends he’s lost to gun violence. “I’m all the way desensitized, but sometimes I still catch myself crying. I done lost a lot, and I cried. A lot of people that I really care about, and I still won’t cry. But sometimes, I think life get overwhelming and I just cry, like, out of emotion. … Death don’t surprise me no more.”

Later in the interview, Herbo briefly touched upon the death of PNB Rock. “That shit crazy. That did something to me mentally, for real,” said Herbo. “Anytime that’s happened, losing an artist who’s just doing their shit to feed their family. … That’s somebody that I know personally, I fuck with PNB. Even if I didn’t have no personal relationship with him, it’d still fuck me up.”
