Fans Pay Tribute to Nipsey Hussle on What Would Have Been His 34th Birthday

Nipsey Hussle would have turned 34-years-old today. The West Coast legend was pronounced dead after being shot outside his Marathon Clothing store on Mar. 31. Ever since his untimely passing, there's been an outpouring of love from both fans and friends of the late rapper. Just under five months on from his death, fans have once again rallied to remember him and celebrate his life.

Director Ava DuVernay, who was a friend of the late rapper, led tributes on Twitter. "Grateful we walked this vast earth at the same time," she tweeted. "Grateful for the work and wisdom he gave us. We miss you. Happy Birthday, Nip."

Family and close friends of Nipsey chose not to publicly celebrate him on his brithday, instead choosing to do so in private. Fans had urged for a celebration of his life to take place, but his family rejected suggestions as they continue to mourn. Marathon Clothing will remain shut down until further notice to allow for the construction a tower in tribute to him.

It was originally reported that the LAPD would be on high alert around the area of the Marathon store for his 34th birthday, but with no official public celebration, it's unclear if that remains the case. It is worth pointing out, however, that TMZ reports the area surrounding the store has been closed off with barbed wire fence to discourage fans from gathering there.
