After Wack 100 posted a concerning message regarding DJ Kay Slay’s battle with COVID-19 earlier this week, his brother has offered an update on the 55-year-old DJ.
In a statement provided to HipHopDX, Kay Slay’s brother Kwame Grayson said that things are looking positive. “He’s definitely not going to die,” said Grayson. “Kay Slay is a private dude and he didn’t tell anybody in the hospital who he was, and we was kinda getting average treatment. When they found out who he was, that’s when everybody stepped up treatment."
Grayson noted that at one point it wasn’t looking good, and his brother was “slowly fading away,” but since then he’s made strides towards recovery. “So he’s up and going," added Grayson. "He’s like in a recovery state, but he’s definitely not going to die. You can trust me on that."
The latest update comes after Wack posted about Kay Slay’s condition on Wednesday. “Pray for my brotha it’s not looking good,” he wrote on Instagram. “He might be mad at me for this those that know Slay but he needs all the support he can get … Been 14 days fighting COVID and he’s just be put on a ventilator. Keep him in your prayers please.”
While Grayson’s comments on Thursday contradict Wack’s post to a degree, the DJ and record executive’s brother said it was rough going for quite a while. He did, however, dispute that Kay Slay was placed on a ventilator.
““That was not a ventilator,” he explained. “I don’t know how they thought that, but it was not a ventilator he was on. It was a machine that was helping him breathe, but it was not a ventilator. I don’t know where they get this information. He was on a machine that was helping him breathe because he couldn’t breathe. A couple of days ago, he was in a state where everybody thought he really wasn’t going to make [it]."
When he was on this machine that Grayson said is not an ventilator, he believed his brother “wasn’t going to make it” and that he “couldn’t even talk.” Ultimately, though, “he’s getting stronger … he’s gonna be alright.”
It’s unclear if DJ Kay Slay is vaccinated or not. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
