In a post shared on social media, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs shared a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. on the 26th anniversary of his death.
“There will NEVER be another,” wrote Diddy, who released Biggie’s debut album Ready to Die on his Bad Boy Records imprint in 1994. "The GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME. Today we celebrate and honor you king. Love and miss you!!" Following Biggie’s murder by drive-by shooting in 1997, the late rapper’s ex Faith Evans and Diddy teamed up for the tribute track, “I’ll Be Missing You.”
Biggie was murdered on March 9, 1997 by an unidentified gunman in Los Angeles. Despite extensive efforts, perhaps most notably by former Los Angeles Police Department detective Russell Poole, the identity of the killer has remained unsolved. Just two weeks after his death, his second studio album Life After Death was released and topped the Billboard 200 album chart. Diddy appeared on and produced the album’s second single, “Mo Money Mo Problems.”
To mark the 26th anniversary of his death, the legendary rapper received a memorial unveiled in Brooklyn by NYC Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday. The mosaic is located at Saint James Place and Fulton Street where Biggie grew up. The street is now called Christopher Wallace Way in honor of the rapper’s real name.
