The New York Police Department (NYPD) announced that it is looking for the three gunmen responsible for the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Bronx drill rapper John Martinez, aka Suave Drilly, as he left a parole office.

As reported by amNewYork, police said that three men in ski masks approached the rapper as he left the Division of Parole near the corner of Alexander Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard in Mott Haven. He was shot multiple times in the chest at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 15). Parole officers rushed to help Martinez as a crowd attempted to gather around the scene. Responding emergency services attempted to revive him at the scene, but he was taken to Lincoln Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Martinez was on parole for his conviction for a first-degree attempted gang assault charge. He was indicted alongside 19 others by the Bronx District Attorney’s office in 2022 for his alleged involvement in a series of Bronx shootings and was imprisoned in 2023.

As reported by New York Daily News in 2022, the 82-count indictment against the 20 people involved accused the suspects of being members of the G-Side/Drilly gang, a subset of the Bloods Sex Money Murder Gang. Their alleged crimes were carried out between September 2018 and March 2022. The charges against others involved included conspiracy, murder, manslaughter, attempted murder, grand larceny, and criminal possession of a weapon. Martinez was released on parole in January 2024.

Police noted that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
