After a number of name changes, Brockhampton's fourth studio album Iridescence arrived last week on Sept. 21. Hits Daily Double reports the group could very well be on their way to securing their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It's extra impressive considering they didn't deliver any singles to build the hype, opting to just perform "Tonya" on Fallon and share a video for the aggressive "J'ouvert" a day before the project dropped.
Predicted to rake in an impressive 89,000-94,000 album equivalent units, with 66,000-71,0000 of those pure sales, Iridescence is at the very least going to land at the No. 2 spot judging from the early numbers. The closest competition comes from Josh Groban's Bridges, which edges ahead ever so slightly with an estimated 94,000-99,000 album equivalent units.
Kevin Abstract, Brockhampton's lead architect, noted on Twitter how close they are to achieving the No. 1 spot.
He later tweeted, "guys we can beat josh groban I'm sure he's a good guy but we Are the best boyband since One Direction this is dedicated to harry."
Even if they don't manage to hit No. 1, they'll still bag their highest-charting release to date. Less than a year ago, their third full-length, Saturation III, peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.
