August Alsina, who had a romance with Jada Pinkett Smith in 2016, is promoting “peace” following Will Smith’s Oscars slap.

“Choose peace; trusting that life’s intricate puzzle pieces are all forming together for the greater good and the mastering of the seasonally sometime chaotic nature of your life’s art piece that’s being formed and painted by birthing life to your internal masterpiece,” he wrote on Instagram, seemingly alluding to Sunday’s now infamous incident. “I’m A Walking Billboard & Network Simply Desiring To Televise & Broadcast Love, the love, grace and healing embrace of God, Good Music that’s healing (w/ a lil bit of nasty).”

Alsina wrapped up the post by asserting that he’s “trying to keep a clean heart out here.”

The singer first opened up about his relationship with the actress in 2020, and despite initially denying it ever happened, Jada later confirmed it unfolded during a brief separation from her husband. The two were romantically involved when he was 23 years old, and she was 44. She denied that August sought permission from her husband, despite his claims to the contrary.

In an interview with Angela Yee in 2020, August was very open about the then-rumored relationship. “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation … He gave me his blessing,” he said. “And I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her (Jada). I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it. So much so that I can die right now, and be OK knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody … Some people never get that in this lifetime.”

Will Smith, who walked home with the Best Actor award on Sunday, has since issued an apology to Chris Rock.
