ASAP Rocky Addresses Losing Best Music Video Grammy to Kendrick Lamar

The award ultimately went to Kendrick Lamar and his video for "Not Like Us."

ASAP Rocky wasn't in attendance at the Grammys, but he was still disappointed his video for "Tailor Swif" didn't pick up the award for Best Music Video.

The Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia-directed video for "Tailor Swif" earned Rocky his second nomination for Best Music Video, and his third Grammy nod overall, but the video ultimately lost to Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us," which the Compton rapper co-directed with Dave Free. In a tweet shared on Sunday, Feb. 2, Rocky expressed his disappointment.

"[broken heart emoji] maybe next time," he wrote.

The video for "Tailor Swif" had stiff competition in the category, facing off against Taylor Swift and Post Malone's video for "Fortnight," Eminem's "Houdini" video, and the star-studded clip for Charli XCX's "360." And in fairness to Rocky, "Not Like Us" swept at the Grammys, picking up all five of the awards it was nominated for.

The last time Rocky was nominated for a Grammy was in 2016, when "LSD" got a nod for Best Music Video. That time he lost out to, coincidentally, the music video for Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" featuring Kendrick Lamar. There are at least a few fun connections to make there.

Rocky and Rihanna, with whom the rapper shares two children, weren't present at the Grammys last night. The last time Rihanna attended the Grammys was in 2018, but the real reason for their absence is likely Rocky's assault trial in Los Angeles. He's currently facing two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm in connection with an alleged 2021 shooting, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
