Alchemist Explains Why He Didn't Send Lil Wayne Beats for 'Tha Carter VI'

Alchemist said he was asked to contribute to 'Tha Carter VI' but ended up "overthinking" it.

The Alchemist was almost one of the producers featured on Lil Wayne's fourteenth solo album Tha Carter VI, but he didn't send any beats in time because he was "overthinking it."

In an interview with HipHopDX on the BET Awards red carpet, which can be seen in full above, The Alchemist discussed his relationship with Wayne and revealed that he was asked to contribute to the project. When asked if he had been in the studio with Weezy, he replied, "Not lately."

Alchemist then revealed that he was asked to contribute to Tha Carter VI, but it didn't work out. "Mack Maine is a good friend of mine and we talk regularly. And I probably missed the boat ’cause they told me to send something for this record and I was just overthinking it," he explained. "Wayne is like up in the quasars as far as MCs, so you never know. I was probably thinking too hard. Listen, we all do that. I overthought it, but next time I won’t."

Lil Wayne has rapped over production from the Alchemist before, and they actually first linked up in 1999 when Weezy appeared on the track "Who Can I Trust" with rapper Cormega. Tha Carter VI might not have featured Al in any form, but it did feature collaborations with several big-name artists, including Big Sean, Machine Gun Kelly, and 2 Chainz.
