21 Savage has suggested that he could beat anyone featured in the XXL Freshman Class of 2016 in a Verzuz-style match-up.

“No one from that... Freshman cover beat me in no Verzuz,” he said in a recent Clubhouse chat. His comment provoked a lot of people in the chat to list off the rappers featured on that year’s list, which has remained a fan favorite.

21 was featured alongside Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, Denzel Curry, G Herbo, Dave East, Lil Dicky, Desiigner, and Anderson .Paak.

In a response shared during a recent Instagram Live stream, Kodak said that he admires 21 Savage’s confidence but called his suggestion “cap.”

“That’s how you should feel, know what I mean?” he said. “But you know I always put myself first over any n***a, any day. That’s cap.”

Desiigner has also offered up a response, and felt the need to remind 21 of his own accomplishments.

“Ay man, why you talking like that?” he said in an Instagram Stories post. “You’re 21. [I] went platinum 20 times. … Stop playing.”

21 shared the sentiment not long after the release of his collaborative album with Drake, Her Loss. The record has already sparked controversy, most notable thanks to a line from Drizzy on “Circo Loco” that references Megan Thee Stallion allegedly getting shot by Tory Lanez. Lil Yachty, who has a writing credit on the song, has since claimed that the line isn’t about Meg at all.
