Cardi B Responds to Tweet Claiming She’s Trying to Boost Numbers by Putting Older Singles on Next Album

Cardi B is responding to criticism about an album that isn’t even out yet.

The rapper confirmed via an appearance on the Playboy-housed Centerfold platform—where she’s a creative director and founding member—that both the Megan Thee Stallion-featuring “WAP” and “Up” will be featured on her upcoming sophomore effort despite the songs being released in 2020 and 2021. ​​​And while the move and the tracks’ preexisting success wouldn’t help her album’s first-week sales, despite bringing her closer to Recording Industry Association of America plaque, some fans were annoyed with Cardi’s decision.

“I blame the streaming era,” one fan wrote. “Artists just do this to get certifications for their album. I don’t like it.”

The user, as noted by HipHopDX, quickly deleted the tweet and shared that they were “not trying to start a stan war” but wanted to share “a critique of the music industry and how it affects track listing.”

Still, Cardi got a hold of the comment, and she wasn’t too thrilled.

“Stop trying to act innocent when u know u was trying to pander,” she wrote in response. “Why haven’t you said nothing about other artists who recently put songs b4 the pandemic on their album or people that have to put other people songs on their shit ..Imagine my biggest song not being on a album.”

Cardi continued, saying her debut Invasion of Privacy had no “CDs, Merch or bundles,” and that the Twitter user should “wash your tongue correctly b4 you talk about who needs streams in this bitch.”

“Lmaaaooooooo imagine me not putting my OWN records on my album,” she wrote.
