Adele's "Easy on Me" Reaches No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

Adele has scored yet another No. 1 song, and it had an easy road to the throne.

The music superstar’s comeback single “Easy on Me” landed at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 after debuting last week at No. 68 following just five hours of availability. This marks the eighth-biggest jump to No. 1 in Hot 100 history; Kelly Clarkson’s 2009 single “My Life Would Suck Without You” still holds the title after leaping from No. 97 to the top spot over a decade ago.

The song has become Adele’s fifth chart-topper in the U.S. after its first full week of streaming, and marks her first since “Hello” reigned supreme between 2015 and 2016, Billboardreports.

“Easy on Me” earned 65 million radio airplay audience impressions, 74,000 downloads, and 53.9 million streams in the U.S., MRC Data shares, dethroning Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow’s “Industry Baby,” which finally topped the chart last week.

The lead single to Adele’s upcoming album 30 is also the fifth song this year to see more than 50 million streams in the U.S. in just one week, following in the footsteps of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” (76.1 million), Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy” (67.3 million), Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” (62.7 million), and Polo G’s “Rapstar” (53.6 million).

Billboard hyper-specifically notes that Adele’s new single is the first song with “Easy” in its title to top the Hot 100, although Phil Collins came close with No. 2 track “Easy Lover” in 1985.

Adele’s 30 album arrives on Nov. 19 and already has a fan in Drake, for whom the singer said she played the album in a recent interview. “I played it to Drake last year when he was in town,” she said. “And I was like ‘is this what people want, or not want?’ And he said ‘absolutely’ but that’s it really.’”
