Swayvo Twain, the 28-year-old son of singers D’Angelo and the late Angie Stone, says he learned to embrace his parents’ legacy before his mother died earlier this month.

Twain, whose real name is Michael Archer Jr., on Wednesday shared a preview of an episode from MTV’s Family Legacy, a documentary series that revisits legendary artists’ careers through their children’s perspectives.

In the clip taken from the sixth episode of the series’ second season, Twain and his mother react to D’Angelo’s notoriously steamy “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” music video before Stone points out the resemblance between Swayvo and his father.

“I always thought you guys had the same exact lips,” Stone tells her son in the clip. “The mouth—I always told him he had a famous mouth, and here you came with the same mouth.”

Swayvo, visibly embarrassed and flabbergasted, tried to steer the conversation elsewhere.

In the caption, Twain admitted that he hesitated to include his mother in the show at the suggestion of his manager. However, he said, it didn’t take long for him to change his tune.

“I used to try to separate myself from my parents cause it always felt like I was fated to be in their shadows forever,” he wrote on Instagram. “But thankfully, long before, momma left I learned to embrace them and their legacy full on. I’m blessed and happy to have had this moment with my momma man.

“If you ever seen me and my momma on IG live, y’all already know this ain’t rehearsed. MTV got to catch a glimpse of how we cut up,” he continued. “She would’ve loved this and the fact yall edited this in good faith like promised tells me we’re apart of the paramount family. I got faith in yall and I’m glad to have had this opportunity to share my momma with the world.”

Stone tragically died in a car accident on March 1 near Montgomery, Alabama. She was 63.
