Soulja Boy Responds to Plies Dropping Copyright Lawsuit Against Him: ‘Sit Yo Lil Broke Ass Down’

Last November, Plies claimed the beat from his 2008 track "Me & My Goons" was copied without permission on 2010's "Pretty Boy Swag," and later GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion's collab "Wanna Be."

Soulja Boy issued a response to news of Plies dropping his copyright infringement lawsuit against him and other rappers over Soulja's sample in "Wanna Be."

According to Billboard on Monday, Plies, born Algernod Washington, dropped the lawsuit on Friday “without prejudice,” meaning he could refile in the future.

Soulja responded to the withdrawn complaint via Instagram on Monday night with a screenshot of the report from Billboard with the caption, “Just like I thought sit yo lil broke ass down nigga. This my shit dummy 😈🤣✅👎🏾👎🏾.”

Last November, Plies accused Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja of copyright infringement in a lawsuit.

At the time, the 48-year-old rapper alleged that his 2008 track “Me & My Goons” introduced what he called a “infrared countdown beat” that was later used by Soulja for his 2010 single, “Pretty Boy Swag.”

Megan and Glo were named in the complaint after Plies accused them of using the same beat on “Wanna Be,” which was first released last April. The legally-cleared sample earned Soulja a writing credit on the track.

A remix of the song with Cardi B, featuring a diss aimed at BIA, followed shortly after.

“‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your [beat],” Soulja said in a video in November 2024 shared to social media. “So you wanna wait 10 years to try to sue a n***a for a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man… What the fuck is wrong with you, Plies?"

"You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a muthafuckin’ liar… You know that ain’t your muthafuckin’ beat, bro,” he continued.

It's unclear if they reached a settlement with the aforementioned rappers. The lawsuit also didn’t specify why Plies waited 14 years to pursue legal action against Soulja.
