Rebecca Black responded to a decade-old tweet by Jaafar Jackson made during the height of her "Friday" fame.
A tweet from the 29-year-old Michael star posted in March 2011 resurfaced last week where he jokingly summoned Kanye West on the then 13-year-old “Friday” singer should she pick up any awards.
“Roses are red, violets are blue, if Rebecca Black wins ANY awards, Kanye you know what to do..,” Jaafar wrote at the time, when he was merely 14 years old.
Although It's unclear which specific award show Jaafar was referencing, Black did win an award for “Choice Web Star” at the Teen Choice Awards held in August 2011. Coincidentally, West was nominated for in the Best R&B/Hip-Hop Artist and R&B/Hip-Hop Track categories that year.
Black, now 28, caught wind of the newly-viral tweet and wrote on Sunday (May 10): "alright but u were fierce in michael tho."
She later followed up with, "guys i'm just having fun after catching a literal decade old stray <3 happy mother's day."
The Michael Jackson biopic, starring Jaafar Jackson as his iconic uncle, brought in $36.5 million in its third weekend, pushing its U.S. total to $240.5 million and its worldwide haul to $577.4 million through Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On Friday (May 8), it passed the $216.7 million domestic total of Bohemian Rhapsody, becoming the highest-grossing music biopic in North America without adjusting for inflation.
On the other hand, Black has continued to release music, with her most recent effort being her 2025 hyperpop album SALVATION. She has also performed DJ sets at major festivals, including Lollapalooza in 2025 and Stagecoach last month.
