Six years after his death, Pop Smoke’s family is opening up a coffee shop in New York City to honor the Brooklyn native’s legacy.
The new spot, called Pop's Place, will be located in Canarsie, the neighborhood where the late rapper grew up.
Pop’s brother, Obasi Jackson, announced the venture on Instagram earlier this month and called for experienced baristas to join the team.
“We’re looking for experienced baristas ready to be part of something special. Serious inquiries only,” he wrote.
Complex reached out to Jackson for more details and will update this story if we hear back.
While preparations are seemingly already underway, an address, menu, and official opening date have not yet been revealed.
A free pop-up event on Tuesday (March 31) will serve as a soft launch for Pop's Place at 1454 Rockaway Parkway. Attendees can purchase exclusive merchandise and sample a food menu.
“We chose Tuesday with intention,” said an Instagram post advertising the event. “Pop was born on a Tuesday, so every time we come together like this, it means something. This is not just a pop up. This is how we keep his name alive. If you know, you’re already pulling up. If you don’t, this is where you need to be.”
Pop Smoke, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, was killed in February 2020 at age 20 during a home invasion in Los Angeles. Last February, Corey Walker, the final defendant in the case, was sentenced to 29 years in prison.
