Kesha is opening up about her sexuality, celibacy, and unconventional dating habits.
The 39-year-old singer was the guest on the Wednesday (May 6) episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
Kesha spoke about not being able to have an orgasm because of the “stress” she was under, presumably referring to her lengthy legal battle against Dr. Luke, whom she accused of sexual assault in 2014.
“Oh, my God. It's a miracle,” Kesha said near the 35-minute mark in the video linked above. “Should I say this? I probably shouldn’t. I don't care, I'm free. I’m now mostly celibate, you know, except for when [I’m] in Italy.”
The Period singer explained that her relationship with pleasure has changed in a deliberate way.
“Now I actually, like, masturbate to gratitude meditations,” she said to Cooper’s disbelief. “Don't knock it ‘til you try it.”
Kesha described feeling “pissed about a lot of stuff,” seemingly following the expiration of her contract with Luke’s Kemosabe Records and Sony Music’s RCA Records.
“When I got my freedom, I was like, ‘I think I'm pissed about a lot of stuff,’ but I keep coming back to pleasure,” she said. “It is OK as a woman to feel pleasure in this world when you go through things. Pleasure is not like the No. 1 neural pathway that your brain always goes to when you have survived things. And I had to reprogram that, and I do it every fucking day, and I'm not even embarrassed about it.”
Kesha also explained that her celibacy is intentional, saying, "My pussy is manifesting with gratitude that my king is coming ... Your body has to align with your reality before it shows up."
Elsewhere in the interview, the “Tik Tok” singer shared some of her past dating experiences.
“I've just dated people I have no business dating," she said while recalling one particularly encounter with a famous "one-eye" person whom she initially found attractive. “The line got drawn ‘cause he just smelled kind of like a Subway sandwich that had been sitting in the back of your car for a couple of days ... It was just not a match."
Looking back at more recent dating attempts, she said she misjudged her own readiness, including a moment involving "two athletes" whom she turned down.
“If I don't like someone's brain, I can't deal with their penis. I'm a sapiosexual," she said. “I was excited ‘cause I got my orgasm back, you know?”
Instead, she concludes: "I think I just want a king... I just wanna masturbate and meditate."
