Kendrick Lamar and TDE released Black Panther: The Album just a few days ago, and one track from the project has already landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 top 10. “Pray for Me,” featuring Kendrick and The Weeknd, is the last track on the collaborative album curated and produced by the rapper and Top Dawg Entertainment head Anthony Tiffith.
Black Panther: The Album preceded director Ryan Coogler’s film Black Panther, which hits theaters on February 16. The 14-track album also includes guests by SZA, 2 Chainz, James Blake, Travis Scott, Swae Lee, Khalid, Schoolboy Q, Jorja Smith, Vince Staples, and more.
“Hats off to [Kendrick] and his production team—they made some really great songs that we got placed in there,” Coogler told NPR. “And hats off to Sounwave, who's producing, and Ludwig [Göransson], who was able to manipulate the score to incorporate some of those songs and weave them in and out of the orchestral stuff that he was already doing. I can't wait for people to hear the music on that album, man.”
After its release, Kendrick went on Twitter to thank everyone who worked on the collaboration.
Meanwhile, Drake’s “God’s Plan” held onto its No. 1 position on the chart this week, and Migos’ “Stir Fry” made an appearance shooting up to No. 8 from No. 12. This is only Migos’ third top 10 appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, following the trio’s tracks “Motor Sport” from December and their first hit “Bad and Boujee.”
