Lorde Accuses Kanye and Kid Cudi of Copying Her 'Melodrama' Tour Set

Lorde went on Instagram to call out Kids See Ghosts for stealing her design. "Don’t steal—not from women or anyone else—not in 2018 or ever,” she wrote.

Lorde is calling out Kanye West and Kid Cudi over their Kids See Ghosts set design over the weekend at Camp Flog Gnaw.

The “Green Light” singer posted a series of photos on her Instagram stories of her Melodrama tour in 2017 and 2018, which feature a floating glass box filled with dancers. She juxtaposed them with images of Kanye and Cudi performing inside a very similar glass box on Sunday.

In her final post Lorde writes, “I’m proud of the work I do and it’s flattering when other artists feel inspired by it, to the extent that they choose to try it on themselves. But don’t steal — not from women or anyone else — not in 2018 or ever.”

Lorde is a self-professed fan and acquaintance of Ye. In March she covered his song "Love Lockdown" while in Chicago with the aforementioned floating box. "It must be nice to come from the same place as Kanye West," she told her audience at the time.

With that in mind, it's not hard to believe Kanye peeped the singer's stage design ahead of Sunday's performance. Whether or not Kids See Ghosts intended to bite her style is up for debate, but Lorde just wants a little credit where credit is due. We should also point out that Kanye and Cudi aren't the first artists to use the floating cubes in their stage shows. As the New York Times' Jon Caramanica pointed out in a tweet, Justin Bieber used a similar set-up for his Purpose World Tour, which unfolded in 2015-16, a year before Lorde's Melodrama World Tour.
