Justin Vernon on Eminem Collab With Homophobic Slur: 'I Was Wrong and We Are Gonna Kill This Track'

"Not a fan of the message, it’s tired," Vernon wrote on his Twitter on Friday, after Eminem dropped his surprise album 'Kamikaze.' "Asked them to change the track, wouldn’t do it."

Thursday night, Eminem surprised fans with a 13-track project titled Kamikaze. It includes features from a number of big artists, including Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon on the track “Fall.” Vernon tweeted that he’s not happy with the song because of Eminem’s use of a homophobic slur, and asked for it to be changed.

“Not a fan of the message, it’s tired,” he wrote. “Asked them to change the track, wouldn’t do it.”

In “Fall,” Eminem uses a slur to take shots at Tyler, the Creator in one of his many disses on the project.

Vernon says he was not in the studio during the time of the recording. He also praised Eminem as a legend, but encouraged him not to diss younger artists or use problematic language. “This is not the time to criticize Youth, it's the time to listen,” he wrote.
