Twenty-one-year-old singer Alessia Cara took home the Grammy last night for Best New Artist, beating out Lil Uzi Vert, SZA, Khalid, and Julia Michaels. Many predictions (but not ours) anticipated the other nominees winning over Alessia. Consequently, fans of the four losing artists expressed their outrage online, with plenty of negative sentiments aimed toward the singer.

Alessia decided to speak on the backlash in a message on her personal Instagram. In summary, she addresses the negativity saying she didn't ask for the award, but she's not going to let people take away from her accomplishments either. "I will not let everything I’ve worked for be diminished by people taking offence to my accomplishments and feeling the need to tell me how much I suck," she wrote. Read the full post below.
