Wild Footage Shows Historic Jetpack Flight in Dubai

Your move, Elon Musk.

In the simplest of terms, whenever someone uploads some well-shot footage of a guy zooming about in a jetpack, people are going to watch the hell out of it.

On Monday, TMZ spotted a solid example of this practice by way of Vince Reffet, a member of the Jetman Dubai team. Footage of Reffet's latest outing was shared Monday by the Crown Prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed, and has been touted by Reffet and others as showing a feat of speed and altitude in terms of general jet packers.

"It is the first time that a #JetmanDubai pilot could combine hovering safely at a limited altitude and flying aerobatics at high altitude in the same flight," XDubai noted when uploading 4K footage of the flight.

Hamdan bin Mohammed characterized the flight as showing off a "major milestone" in the journey toward fully autonomous human flight:

According toEsquire Middle East, the latest Jetman Dubai flight marks the first time a pilot has been able to take off vertically. The footage was captured Feb. 14, with Reffet ultimately achieving a height of 1,800 meters (5,905 feet) near the end of the three-minute flight.
