Following the death of a teenager at an off-campus house, Pennsylvania State University has suspended a fraternity.

PerCentre Daily Times, the university issued an interim suspension following this weekend's death of 17-year-old Cathedral Preparatory School hockey player John "Jack" Schoenig. The off-campus residence in question was allegedly occupied by members of the Chi Phi fraternity's Alpha Delta chapter, though the home is not the official home for the fraternity.

In a statement, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims said the exact details of the housing arrangement are not yet known, though an ongoing investigation should provide answers.

Local authorities responded to a "medical emergency" Saturday night on West College Avenue after receiving a call alerting them to an unconscious male with shallow breathing. Once police arrived, the 17-year-old was "in full cardiac arrest" and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Citing a "thorough and careful" investigation into the death, university officials said the suspension was an appropriate response to the mysterious incident. Pending that investigation, it's not currently known whether hazing was involved.

An autopsy was conducted Monday, with the Timesnoting in their report that results should be released in roughly six weeks.
