Minneapolis School Bus Driver Shot in Head While Transporting Children

Photos from the scene show a bullet hole in the bus' front windshield. Per authorities, three young children were on board at the time of the shooting.

A school bus driver in Minneapolis was shot in the head Wednesday while transporting children.

Per a regional report from KSTP, citing local authorities, the driver was shot at around 2:15 p.m. local time in north Minneapolis. He was found “with a gunshot wound to the head,” at which point he was transported to the hospital. Per the article, the injuries sustained during the shooting did not appear to be life-threatening.

A separate local report by WCCO provides additional info on the incident, noting that three students were believed to be on the bus at the time of the shooting, which occurred in the Camden neighborhood region of Minneapolis. The children in question, all of whom were reported to be “under the age of 10,” were not injured.

In a statement released via Facebook, Minneapolis Public Schools addressed the bus driver shooting, as well as a different shooting that occurred the same day and involved a 15-year-old boy.

“Our MPS community is grieving tonight after one of our students and one of our bus drivers were the victims of gun violence in two separate incidents,” an MPS rep said Wednesday. “Investigations are currently underway and until we have more information, we are not sharing specifics. For now, we recognize the deep impact this has on our students, staff and families. Our thoughts tonight are especially with the victims’ families during this difficult time.”

Complex has reached out to MPS for additional comment and will update this post accordingly.
