Man Fresh Out of Jail Allegedly Leads Cops on Highway Chase in Stolen 5-Ton Military Vehicle

The 38-year-old suspect had earlier that day been released from jail, where he returned later that evening.

A man is back in custody in Maryland after allegedly stealing a military vehicle and leading officers from multiple local agencies on a chase.

Per a report from regional outlet WUSA9, Michael Stevens, 38, was arrested on Friday and accused of stealing a privately owned 5-ton military vehicle from a home in the Bel Air area of Harford County. Earlier that same day, Stevens had been released from the Harford County Detention Center.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that its deputies first got involved after receiving a call of the stole military vehicle at around 6:35 p.m. local time on Friday. Shortly after their arrival at the scene, the 5-ton truck was seen being driven into the Bel Air area, after which the suspect took the massive vehicle onto the interstate. Stop sticks, also more commonly referred to as spike strips, were used in an ultimately unsuccessful effort to bring the vehicle to a halt.

Stevens is alleged to have brought the vehicle to a stop once he reached Conkling Street, at which point he fled on foot and was arrested.

While no injuries were reported in connection with the chase, it’s said that Stevens “crashed into multiple civilian vehicles” while driving the military truck. By 9:20 that night, he had again been booked into the Harford County Detention Center. Listed charges include motor vehicle theft, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and failing to obey a lawful order. As of Friday, he was being held without bond.

Complex has reached out to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for comment. This story may be updated.
