Getting Your Wrecked iPhone X Fixed Won't Be Cheap

A great idea for a horror movie would be a two-hour loop of people dropping and breaking their iPhones.

If your aesthetic is built around a perpetually cracked iPhone screen, then this article isn't for you. Carry on with your reckless ways. We all salute you. But if the thought of damaging your pristine sexting experience on the iPhone X makes you tremble with fear, then you should (as always!) strongly consider throwing down some extra money for AppleCare+.

Warranty-free iPhone X users will be charged a flat rate of $279 for screen repairs and $549 for "other damage," MacRumors—citing an updated section on the official Apple website—reported Friday.

AppleCare+ for the iPhone X, meanwhile, will set you back a far more reasonable $199 for two years of (mostly) sweat-free service.

Apple launched X pre-orders early Friday, and as expected, wise Apple fans swarmed. Pre-orders for the X sold out within minutes of the launch, with Apple describing customer demand as "off the charts" in a statement to TechCrunch. But if you missed out on a pre-order through Apple or your cellular provider, there's still an extremely small glimmer of hope: The phones will be available in Apple stores Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. Getting to your local store very early is strongly advised.

The X boasts an all-glass and stainless steel design, A11 bionic chip, wireless charging, Face ID, Animoji, and much more. Of course, as with any new Apple phone, arguably its strongest feature is that it's not a goddamn Android.

If you're skipping the X leap, Apple's recently released iPhone 8 is the next best thing.
