How's your iPhone treating you lately? If you're flexing on a reasonable budget, you're probably pretty pleased with the iPhone 6s' picture and video quality, not to mention the fact that the device is practically perfect for mastering Pokémon Go. But if you're a design snob (it me), there is just one little problem, and it's actually not so little at all: that damn camera bump. Sadly, as Mashable reports, the chances of the iPhone 7 abandoning said camera bump are looking relatively unlikely.
A photo first obtained by Nowhereelse.fr alleges to show the iPhone 7, complete with what appears to be an even larger camera bump than the one found on the 6s:
This apparent bummer follows previous theories suggesting the iPhone 7 will most likely stick to the general look and feel of the 6s, aside from a few tweaks. Most notably, the iPhone 7 may be losing the headphone jack for good. As reported last month by Steve Hemmerstoffer, the missing headphone jack could be replaced by another speaker:
Fantastic. So why the apparent aversion to slimming down that camera bump and giving iPhoners the flat and minimal beauty of iPhones past? After all, the protruding camera design is even bothersome to Apple's own chief of design, Jony Ive. When asked about the protruding lens in a 2015 interview with the New Yorker, Ive revealed the behind-the-scenes decision that resulted in the bump was "a really very pragmatic optimization." When asked about the "drama" behind such a phrase, Ive responded with a simple "And yeah." So, um, yeah.
The good news? The continuation of the unsightly bump means the camera in the wallet-busting iPhone 7 will surely boast some major upgrades. The not-so-good news? For all the size discriminators who opt for the iPhone 7 Plus, that bump will be even more massive.
Apple did not immediately respond to Complex's request for comment.
