Officials are pointing to Hurricane Debby after the discovery of an estimated $1 million worth of cocaine on a Florida Keys beach.

Monday, Samuel Briggs II, Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Miami division, shared photos of the haul in question, which is said to have spanned 70 pounds across 25 different packages. All told, at least according to Border Patrol officials’ figuring, the total potential worth of the beach-bound upper has been determined to fall squarely in the more-than-a-million range.

"Hurricane Debby blew 25 packages of cocaine (70 lbs.) onto a beach in the Florida Keys," Briggs said in an X update. "Good Samaritan discovered the drugs and contacted authorities. U.S. Border Patrol seized the drugs, which have a street value of over $1 million dollars."

A bunch of coke finding its way to the shores, whether due to acts of god or otherwise, is not exactly a rare occurrence. Furthermore, coke, at large, most assuredly has a way of never leaving the headlines war for very long, instead always finding a way to return to the conversation. Just last month, for instance, we were talking about cocaine sharks. In fact, that begging-to-be-headlined development in the shark space actually marked the second such story in as many years.

Hurricane Debby, now technically Tropical Storm Debby, remains a cause for concern for many in the U.S. Multiple deaths in connection with the storm have been confirmed in Florida, with severe flooding possible in other states as Debby continues its trek.
