A Florida woman has admitted to totally making up a kidnapping story to see how much her boyfriend cared about her, police say. Janet Elena Brooks of Clermont was arrested last week after authorities stumbled upon some surveillance footage that challenged her kidnapping claims, the Palm Beach Postreports.

Brooks, 22, came to police and detailed an apparent abduction by an unidentified man at gunpoint in the parking lot of an apartment complex. According to Brooks' original claims, the man also forced her into the trunk of his vehicle and later dropped her off at a dog park in the Polk County area. Polk County deputies then obtained surveillance footage from the apartment complex in question, with the Daily Commercial reporting that it showed Brooks exiting the grounds and walking toward a local highway.

Brooks later confessed to totally making the whole thing up when confronted about the surveillance footage, reportedly telling police she was worried about another woman being into her boyfriend. To test how much this unnamed boyfriend "truly cared about her," Brooks is believed to have fabricated the kidnapping.

As one might expect, this confession resulted in Brooks' arrest and subsequent charge of filing a false report. According to an updated report from Metro Tuesday, Brooks was later released from the Lake County Jail on bail. Notably, this fake kidnapping revelation comes just days after a separate and completely unrelated Florida woman allegedly faked a bomb threat to prevent her boyfriend from having to submit a urine sample. Love is, like, so edgy now.
