A pair of cameras that are said to have malfunctioned outside the jail cell where Jeffrey Epstein died will now be examined by the FBI, a source claimed in a Reutersreport published late Wednesday.
The cameras in question, which have now reportedly been sent off to an FBI crime lab in Virginia, were "within view" of Epstein's Manhattan jail cell. Epstein was found dead in this cell on Aug. 10, with attorneys Martin Weinberg and Reid Weingarten having expressed doubt over the circumstances of the death that was ultimately ruled a suicide by a medical examiner.
Earlier this week, The Washington Post said that at least one hallway camera had captured footage that was "unusable," though "clearer" footage that's actually usable was also reported to have been obtained.
Epstein's death came as he was awaiting trial after being arrested one month prior and charged with sex trafficking of minors. His connections with Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, among others, have since received renewed mainstream attention.
"He showed the world what a depraved and cowardly human being he was by taking his own life," Sarah Ransome, one of Epstein's alleged victims, told reporters this week. Ransome also urged prosecutors to go after anyone who conspired with Epstein, stating "we all know he did not act alone."
