Three Texas Women Missing After Traveling To Mexico, Last Seen Two Weeks Ago

Peñitas Police report that three women are missing after crossing into Mexico from the Texas border. The two sisters and friend have been missing for two weeks.

Three Texas women are missing after crossing the Mexico border two weeks ago.

In late February, sisters Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47; Marina Perez Rios, 48; and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53, traveled to Mexico to sell clothes at a Flea Market but never came back, according to U.S. authorities. The women are natives of Peñitas, a small border town near McAllen, TX.

Peñitas Police Chief Roel Bermea said the families notified Mexican authorities but have had no luck finding the three women. The FBI is also aware of the disappearance.

The U.S. Border and Customs Protection confirmed that the women crossed the border on Feb. 24.

The husband of one of the women revealed that he spoke to his wife while traveling but grew suspicious after not hearing from her for a while. “Since he couldn’t make contact over that weekend, he came in that Monday and reported it to us,” Chief Bermea said. No one has heard from the woman since then.

U.S. and Mexico law enforcement continue to look into the case until they are found.

This news comes after a viral video surfaced of the abduction of four Americans. The citizens traveled from South Carolina to Matamoros, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, for a cosmetic procedure. The group was caught in a cartel shootout and hauled into the back of a pickup truck by an armed gunmen. Unfortunately, two members died. On Tuesday, officials found the other two members alive in a wooden shack near the Gulf of Mexico. They were returned to the U.S. safely.

Since then, the Gulf cartel issued an apology following a five-person arrest in the kidnapping.
