Even if you don't miss acid-washed jeans or life pre-smartphones, everyone is definitely still nostalgic for the '90s.
That's why one Redditor asked others to list what '90s things need to make a comeback. The answers may make you wistful for a simpler time, or at lease inspire you to binge-watch Family Matters.
Prizes in cereal boxes
Before everyone really cared about the dangers of refined sugar, most kids started their day with a bowl of cereal. The best part? “Toys in cereal boxes, god.”
Turns out, toys in cereal boxes haven’t been a thing in ages, mostly because cereal companies don't want to be liable for any damages caused by their toys. These days, you’ll mostly find codes for online “rewards.” While this is a sensible update for the new millennium, was there anything better than beating your siblings to the prize?
'Unsolved Mysteries'
If you ever had sleepless nights as a kid, it was likely because of the show Unsolved Mysteries.
Every week (if it wasn't past your bedtime), host Robert Stack would introduce you to the creepiest stories you'd ever heard. The format was not unlike Dateline, except it featured "true" stories about alien abductions, ghosts, and other conspiracy theories.
As Redditor tomorrows-forecast pointed out, the show was one of the best things from the '90s.
Its introduction alone is enough to give you goosebumps:
Chill airport security
These days, it's not unheard of to arrive at the airport half a day before your plane departs. But there was once a time when this wasn't the norm. As one Redditor pointed out, traveling in a post-Sept. 11 world isn't the most fun.
"You used to be able to go right up to the actual gate where people boarded/deplaned and meet your friend or family member as soon as they stepped off the plane. On the one hand, sometimes it was way more crowded at the gate when you're getting on or off(especially around the holidays) with people's friends and family coming with them to the gate, but I do miss being able to go right up to the gate to meet people or see them off."
Chill airport security would also help anyone starring in a '90s rom-com show their lover how they really feel.
Instant messaging
Literally nothing was better than waiting for your crush to pop up on AOL instant messaging.
Redditor Kagamid said, "Asking a girl for her IM name was safer than a phone number. It also gave you a chance to work the number out of her if your type game was strong."
Now, it’s easier than ever to keep in touch with anyone, which can be great. But in '90s AIM messages, there were no read receipts, so it was way easier to avoid someone.
While '90s nostalgia has gotten a bit tiring (we get it, the Spice Girls were the best ever), it's hard not to look back and get a little sentimental.
