Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran over the weekend, delivering a blunt and profanity-filled warning demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical energy routes.
In a Truth Social post shared on Easter Sunday, Trump praised U.S. military efforts in the region before turning his attention to Iran, setting a firm deadline for the country to end what he described as a blockade affecting global shipping.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" Trump wrote, signaling potential strikes on key infrastructure. He added: "Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH!"
The post came as the U.S. and its allies increased pressure on Tehran to restore access through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway that carries a significant portion of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supply.
Trump later clarified that Iran would have until Tuesday evening to comply, extending an earlier deadline as diplomatic efforts continued behind the scenes.
Despite those efforts, negotiations involving intermediaries have reportedly made little progress. Talks aimed at easing tensions and reopening the route have stalled, raising concerns about further escalation.
Iranian officials quickly pushed back on Trump's remarks. Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized the U.S. president's approach, warning that such actions could deepen instability and accusing Washington of inflaming the situation. The exchange highlights the growing stakes surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, where disruptions can have global economic consequences.
