8 Shot Including 12-Year-Old Girl in Washington D.C.

On Friday night, eight people were shot at multiple locations in a Southeast Washington D.C. neighborhood, including a 12-year-old girl who survived.

Eight people were shot, including a 12-year-old girl, in Washington, D.C., on Friday night (April 21), according to NBC News.

Assistant Chief Andre Wright of the Metropolitan Police Department stated in a press conference that gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. ET on Lebaum Street SE and 2nd Street SE. Wright also explained witnesses saw a shooter or shooters in a black sedan drive through the area and opened fire on civilians on Lebaum Street.

Police arrived on the scene, where they found multiple men shot and were informed of another victim — the 12-year-old girl — found shot on 2nd Street. The girl was hit in her lower extremities, and according to Assistant Chief Wright, all those injured are expected to survive. Due to the close proximity of the two locations, Wright said the shootings are likely connected to one another.

“It’s a beautiful night. There were folks who were hanging out here, and there were folks who were milling about on the 2nd Street scene,” Wright said. “And for some reason you had some people who think that it was OK to fire a firearm at multiple individuals at two different scenes. And we’re not going to let that stand.”

At the scene on Lebaum Street, police reported seven people were shot, and they believe the bullets came from the black sedan. Police said the scene was chaotic when they arrived. Some of the victims went to a nearby hospital on their own.

Wright also added that police are still piecing together what happened at the 2nd Street location and that if anyone has information, to contact law enforcement.
