A classroom exchange at Wonder Junior High School in West Memphis, Arkansas, has led to an aggravated assault charge against a teacher after a confrontation with a student escalated, according to police.
Authorities say the incident happened on April 15 and was captured on classroom surveillance footage. The situation reportedly began with a brief verbal exchange when a student told the teacher, “Bruh, I don’t have a computer.”
According to a police report, the teacher responded, “I’m not your bruh. I’m your sir.”
When the student attempted to correct himself, saying, “My bad, lil bruh,” investigators say the interaction quickly turned physical. Police allege the teacher grabbed the student by his shirt and forced him against a desk.
The report states the student then tried to leave the classroom, but the teacher followed. In the hallway, the teacher is accused of grabbing the student by the neck, pushing him into a wall, and applying pressure that made it difficult for the student to breathe.
The student later reported the incident to school administrators, who reviewed the footage and contacted law enforcement. The teacher was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
In a statement, the West Memphis School District described the situation as an “isolated” incident but did not provide further details. Officials have not confirmed whether the teacher is still employed at the school.
The investigation remains ongoing as the teacher faces a felony charge tied to the incident.
