While most of Times Square was transfixed by Mariah Carey's super awkward New Year's Eve performance, these three jewel thieves were knocking off a Gregg Ruth to the tune of $6 million in gold and diamond bracelets, earrings, and necklaces from the jewelry store.

According to the New York Post, at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, the trio of thieves entered a building on West 36th Street in New York City through a freight entrance and took a hammer to a door that contained four safes containing all kinds of jewelry. It appears that this was an inside job, as the safes they hit were either already opened or the thieves knew the combinations; there's surveillance footage that appears to show one of the thieves talking on a phone. Were they getting the much-needed codes from another person?

This shit feels like it's straight out of a movie, although you'd think that if they had the wherewithal to hatch up what feels like the perfect heist, they would've noted the camera sitting DIRECTLY ATOP THE DOOR THEY NEEDED TO BREAK IN.

Some workers in the building added weight to the inside-job conversation, primarily because without signage, you wouldn't even know that the commercial jewelry warehouse was there. “They would have needed a key [to access the freight entrance] or someone left it open for them,” one source told the Post.

As of now, the trio of thieves are still at large, and the owner of the business is currently in India. Anyone with information are being asked to hit up the Crime Stoppers hotline. Feels like these thieves might be long gone, though.
