Subway Rat Likes Pizza as Much as Any Native New Yorker

Pizza rat strikes again!

All New Yorkers LOVE pizza, and that holds true whether they have two legs as four, as one subway rat proved over the weekend. Twitter user @michaelcourant caught a rare-ish glimpse of this rare subset of NYC wildlife—the famed pizza rat—making off with a slice of what looks to be plain cheese at the 59th St. and Lexington Avenue subway station.

Pizza rats aren’t an all too uncommon sighting in Manhattan, as one 2015 viral video also proved. In that case, the furry little guy tried to make off with a slice while scampering down the stairs—two tasks that even some humans fail to do simultaneously.

Suffice it to say, it’s always a delight to catch glimpse of these gluten and dairy loving rodents in their natural habitat, the subway. I mean, as far as the Manhattan animal kingdom is concerned, they're a hell of a lot cuter than cockroaches. As Mashable notes, this particular sighting was made all the more hilarious by the fact that 59th and Lex is in peak midtown, a neighborhood home to fancy retailers and frequented by wealthy tourists and suit-and-tie types.

Anyway, no word yet if this is in fact the same pizza rat from 2015, which many believed to be a scam organized by improv comedians. However, the video looks pretty authentic to me.
