Barack Obama, Best Boss Ever, Officiates His Former Staffers’ Wedding

In case we needed any proof that Barack Obama was a great boss, the 44th president of the United States spent Sunday officiating two former staffers’ wedding. Dana Remus, a general counsel for the Obama Foundation and Obama’s personal office, married Brett Holmgren, a former special assistant to the president, in a 120-guest ceremony at District Winery in D.C.’s Navy Yard.

As The Washingtonian first reported, Holmgren, the groom, said the couple decided to invite Obama “because he was such an important part of our lives.” Ours too. Apparently, the 44th president of the United States was pretty jazzed about the idea of officiating. As Holmgren said, “We also asked him if he could officiate, and he was intrigued with the idea.” Naturally, the former president, who is said to have obtained a temporary officiant’s license through the District of Columbia, was prominently featured on the wedding program. To be fair, Obama doesn’t show up to your wedding—your wedding shows up to Obama.

Not only did he officiate the ceremony, but the former president also gave a speech after the bride’s walk down the aisle and served as a signer on the couple’s marriage certificate. Holmgren and Remus kept their former boss’s cameo under wraps, so most of the guests were surprised to be attending a wedding with a presidential address… literally. I guess it’s good to know their guests were showing up for the right reasons and not just for a selfie with Obama—not that we would blame them.

The former president also managed to make a brief appearance at the couple’s reception, where he chatted with guests and took pictures with the wedding party. The groom’s mother told The Washingtonian, “It was a very very exciting moment. Everybody who was there was just flabbergasted and amazed at just what a nice person he is.”

Anyway, countdown until 45 demands to see Obama’s officiant license and calls the wedding fake news.
