Lyft has joined the ranks of companies taking a stand against gun violence. In the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy, several retailers have raised the purchasing age of rifles to 21. Enterprise Holdings also ended several partnerships between their subsidiaries and the NRA, as did First National Bank. Now, Lyft has promised to offer free rides for demonstrators around the country to the “March for Our Lives” rallies on March 24th.
Shooting survivor and Marjory Stoneman Douglas survivor, Cameron Kasky tweeted a letter the students received from Lyft co-founders, Logan Green and John Zimmer. Kasky is one of the many student survivors who have gone on to lead the charge for common sense gun regulation. “We want to send you a note of condolences, thanks and solidarity,” the founders wrote. “We believe there is something seriously wrong when the threat of gun violence is so frequent and real throughout our country. And like many, we are inspired by your leadership.”
The founders then went on to offer “free Lyft rides to the March for Our Lives rallies across the country on March 24,” noting that any riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The founders thanked the students “for speaking up and showing the world that young people can drive meaningful change.”
