A Chicken Shortage Causes KFC Closures in the UK

Their new delivery partner has been facing "teething problems."

KFC maybe Kentucky fried, but it’s enjoyed by chicken lovers all all over the world. Unfortunately, for those chicken heads (no, not that kind) in the UK, a bird shortage means the fast-food chain has been forced to close most of its 900 locations in Britain and Ireland. Affected outlets will be shortening their hours and offering a limited menu.

KFC apologized for the inconvenience on Saturday, saying, “The chicken crossed the road, just not to our restaurants…”. Cheeky but kind of morbid, don't you think? The company blamed the chicken shortage on their new delivery partner, DHL, citing “teething problems.” I don’t even want to know what that means, but it does not sound particularly finger lickin' good.

The company also assured customers that “The Colonel is working on it.”

Reportedly, DHL recently partnered with KFC, and have taken over the contract from Bidvest Logistics. DHL said that “due to operational issues a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed.” Fair enough, but that still doesn’t answer the “teething” question.

On Monday, KFC followed up with a link to some 200 functioning locations, which it says will be updated "regularly."

There's still no word as to when the closed locations will be back up-and-running—er...frying?
