Man Charged With Murder for Fatally Stabbing Brother Over Wi-Fi Speed

The two brothers had a violent past, but "I never ever thought it would come to this," a friend said.

Timothy Record, 20, has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of his older brother, Nathan (23) after the two got into a heated argument over which devices were slowing down the speed of the Wi-Fi in their family home in Leominster, Massachusetts.

Police allege that the argument got physical when Nathan began “repeatedly punching [Timothy] in the face and head." Timothy then grabbed knives from the downstairs kitchen and threatened his brother with them, ultimately stabbing Nathan in the chest.

Their mother, who was at home, called 911, and even though Nathan was alive when police found him at the top of the stairs, he died of his injuries after arriving at the Leominster Health Alliance Hospital on Tuesday night. Police claim there was a history of violence between the two brothers.

Timothy’s lawyer, Blake Rubin, told the Worcester Telegramthat “it’s a tragedy for everyone,” and that Timothy is “upset both at his brother’s death and the situation in which he finds himself.”

The two brothers lived at home with their mother and stepfather. According to Nathan’s Facebook page, he worked at Fountain Services of Boylston and had previously worked for Leominster Ice and Oil Co. He studied business at Quinsigamond Community College.

Kevin Cwikla, one of Nathan’s friends, told BuzzFeed Newsthat Nathan played Call of Duty competitively and spent a lot of time online.

"We played together online and I was talking to him the day it happened," Cwikla told BuzzFeed, also pointing out that the brothers had "argued in the past, very extreme."

"But I never ever thought it would come to this," he said.
