FOX 4 Kansas City reports that a man died when he tried to light commercial-grade fireworks in an improvised mortar, just minutes after the Chiefs won their first championship in 50 years at Super Bowl LIV on Sunday night. Police said the incident occurred two minutes after the game came to an end at 9:15 p.m.

Fireworks appeared to be the preferred celebration among Kansas City residents as evidence by the collective burst that managed to show up on the National Weather Service radar.

While additional details regarding the victim have not been released, it's being reported that he died from a catastrophic head injury.

The Chiefs' Super Bowl victory led to 14 arrests with the ejection of 45 people from the city's largest entertainment district. The Kansas City Fire Department responded to 24 medical incidents that occurred during and after the game.

A hopefully safer celebration will take place on Wednesday when the Chiefs' champions parade is held in Kansas City.
