The U.S. Coast Guard revealed Wednesday that "presumed human remains" were found in the same area where debris from the Titan submersible has been retrieved.
According to CNN, the alleged remains discovered "within the wreckage" will be sent to medical professionals for inspection.
The five individuals aboard the submersible were confirmed dead last week following a "catastrophic implosion." In the days that followed, there have been conflicting accounts regarding one of the victims, 19-year-old Suleman Dawood, and his enthusiasm about boarding the ill-fated submersible.
His aunt Azmeh told NBC News that Suleman was "terrified" about the trip, but ultimately decided to go because he wanted to experience it with his father. In an interview with BBC, Suleman's mother Christine said she gave up her seat on the submersible because her son wanted to set a new Guinness World Record that would be captured on camera by his father Shahzada.
"He said, 'I'm going to solve the Rubik's Cube 3,700 meters below sea at the Titanic,'" Christine recalled.
Hamish Harding, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush—CEO of OceanGate, which owned the Titan submersible—were also killed.

In a since-deleted tweet, Nicki Minaj said that she is "praying" the five missing people on the submersible craft make it home safe.
Pelagic Research Services released a statement, declaring retrieval efforts have been "successfully completed” and workers are now “in the process of demobilization from the Horizon Arctic."
The company commended its crew members who "have been working around the clock now for ten days, through the physical and mental challenges of this operation, and are anxious to finish the mission and return to their loved ones."
