The American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, has received an incredible outpouring of support over the last few days in the form of hundreds of thousands of new members, and over $19 million in donations.
On Saturday, the ACLU filed a lawsuit in an effort to free two Iraqi detainees—Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Haider Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi—at JFK Airport in New York, which led to an 11th hour ruling from a federal judge blocking Donald Trump's executive order banning immigrants from seven predominantly-Muslim countries from entering the United States. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” ACLU executive director Anthony Romero told Yahoo News. “People are fired up and want to be engaged. What we’ve seen is an unprecedented public reaction to the challenges of the Trump administration.”
Those individuals who have voiced their opinions have extended to Twitter where over 25 million tweets have been sent regarding the President and his executive order on Muslim immigration, according to a Twitter spokesperson. It greatly outnumbering the tweets related to the Women's March and the presidential inauguration earlier this month.
