A social worker has died after a knife attack at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
On December 4, 2025, at approximately 3:04 p.m., San Francisco Police officers "responded to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center regarding a stabbing," San Francisco police wrote in a news release.
According to the San Francisco Standard, the victim was a social worker, and police "recovered a 5-inch kitchen knife that was believed to have been used in the attack."
The Standard alleged that the suspect "had been in the hospital for a scheduled appointment and had reportedly made prior threats to a doctor at the hospital."
"Officers were advised that at approximately 1:39 p.m., an adult male suspect had stabbed a victim multiple times and was being detained by the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department," the police wrote.
"The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital," the release added. "Despite the lifesaving efforts of medical staff, the victim was declared deceased at the hospital on December 6, 2025."
The victim was not identified by police. However, they wrote that a suspect was in custody. "Investigators developed probable cause to arrest 34-year-old Wilfredo Tortolero Arriechi of San Francisco," the release noted.
"Tortolero Arriechi was booked into San Francisco County Jail for attempted murder (664/187 PC), assault with a deadly weapon (245 (a)(1) PC), mayhem (203 PC), and being armed during the commission of a felony (12022 (b)(1) PC)," police alleged. "The San Francisco Homicide Detail is now leading the investigation. The Homicide Detail will be updating the charges upon review of the case."
Police did not detail a motive.
"Although an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD," they wrote.
