The CEO of Chipotle says all customers should do to receive double scoops is to simply ask.
The chain’s CEO Scott Boatwright was interviewed by Yahoo Finance host Brian Sozzi in a new episode of Power Players posted on Monday (May 4), where the two had a meal in Chipotle and discussed business insight. Over the years, it’s been a recurring joke that bowl portions aren’t enough to satisfy customers despite how good the food is.
“You should ask for a little more,” Sozzi stressed around the 37-minute mark below. “It has always been our brand ethos and it is still to this day, we serve big beautiful bowls and burritos. Full stop, no questions asked. If you want more, just ask the team member.”
Sozzi added that there’s “never a team member on that line that's gonna say no to you.” “I tell my team all the time, put as much food in that bowl and burrito as you possibly can,” Sozzi continued. “I want the consumer to tell you it's too big.”
The chain still plans on implementing an “AI visioning system” to measure how much food is being placed into bowls, however, Sozzi plans for Chipotle employees to “continue to put heaping spoonfuls of food in bowls.”
“We’re about abundance, we’re about value,” he said.
In 2024, former Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol announced during an earnings meeting to investors that they planned on meeting the “right standards” for customer portions. He also denied that there was a “directive to provide less to our customers.”
